"When I was eighteen years old, I met Cadence. He seemed like a scared little bunny, like no one had ever taken the time to actually talk to him and see just what he was about. He seemed nervous like he thought that I might have wanted something, but the truth was, I was probably just as lonely as he was at the time. 

He aged out of the foster system at the same time I came to this country. I needed him in some of the same ways that he needed me, and the rest, as they say, is history. He became my brother, even if he never bothered to change his second name, no matter how many times I teased him about it. But he was still my brother, my best man, and the godfather to my kids, because he wouldn't have them with me himself. 

I can say with great confidence that the world is a worse place without his big stupid smile or his laugh, or the way he listened. Hand to chin and attentive. I'll miss him every day until God calls me to join him. I just hope he's having a good one and getting treated like he always deserved."
